The Pinewood Derby
The pinewood derby is a race where you build a car made out of wood. Then you race the car down a track and see which car is the fastest. If you're a tiger (the first rank in cub scouts) you'll only race about 5 to 10 people but on the other hand if you're a wolf or over (wolf is the second rank) you'll have to race against the rest of the ranks and maybe parents.You'll also learn things like woodworking and physics.Also the cars are really cool,and you'll have SOOOO much fun!In my opinion the things you learn are woodworking and physics.
I think physics because you have to make your car aerodynamic so your car will be faster. I think woodworking because of all the cutting and sanding. The woodworking is more fun though, I think that because this is time when you get to create the car and its major details. Then when you bring it home it is more of the minor details like painting, stickers, and weigh-in.The pinewood derby is not ONLY about winning, it is also about LOOKS.
In previous pinewood derbys there have been awesome cars that looked like space shuttles and cheese cars, and even cars with lego people in them. These are only a few out of a lot of cool cars!The cub scouts even have a whole BOOK on pinewood derby CAR STYLES!! But sadly they don't have an award for COOLest car. Still if you don't win, then you probably want to have a cool car.Having fun is the thing that EVERYBODY has at the pinewood derby. Some of the reasons why are:The racing down the track, cheering for friends of family, building the car. And these are only a few of the many things that are fun in the pinewood derby! For example: During last year's pinewood derby they let the parents make cars and I was SCREAMing and YELLing like one of the most CRAZY MANIACS of all the CRAZY MANIACS in a barbaric world for my dad to win.
So the reasons you should go to the pinewood derby are- You learn a lot of things
- You can create really cool cars
- The pinewood derby is SOOOO fun
